Code of conduct · Version 1.0

How we teach each other.

Conexus works because students trust each other. These rules apply to everyone: mentors, learners, and anyone who’s both. You agree to them when you join, and moderators use them when they review a report.

The short version

  • Be a peer, not a pro

Nobody here is a paid tutor. Patience beats perfection.

  • Public places only

Every session happens at an approved public spot.

  • Log only real hours

Check in and out together, in person, every time.

  • Speak up

If something feels off, leave and report it. You won’t get in trouble.

For mentors

Teach what you listed, at the level you listed.

If you said intermediate, don’t promise advanced. Learners pick you based on your profile and your credential, so keep both honest.

Come with a plan, even a small one.

Three things you want to cover is plenty. Bring the gear you said you would: a ball, a spare pick, a practice worksheet.

Help them learn. Don't do it for them.

For academic skills, explain and work examples together. Never complete graded homework, take tests, or write essays for someone. That breaks your school’s academic integrity policy and ours.

Ask before physical correction.

In sports, music and dance, demonstrate first. If you need to adjust someone’s form, ask “Can I show you?” and accept a no.

Make it low pressure.

No comparisons, no mocking, no “this is easy.” The whole point is that learning from a peer feels safer than learning from a coach.

For learners

Say what you want out of it.

The more specific your request (“I want to land a first touch under pressure for tryouts”), the better your mentor can help.

Respect their time.

Your mentor is a student with homework and practice too. Show up on time, and if you need to cancel, do it early.

Leave honest, kind feedback.

Reviews help great mentors get found. Rate the session, not the person, and keep it constructive.

Credits are for learning, not trading.

Credits can’t be transferred, sold, or exchanged for money or favors.

Meeting in person

  • Only meet at the approved place on your booking. Moving? Update the booking first.
  • School campuses, libraries, rec centers, fields and parks, during daylight hours.
  • Never meet at someone's home, and never get in a car with someone you met on Conexus.
  • Let someone you trust know where you'll be and when you expect to finish.
  • First session with someone new? Pick a spot with other people around.
  • You can leave any session at any time, for any reason. Tap “End early” and you're done.

Messages & privacy

Keep conversations on Conexus.

You don’t need to share a phone number, social handle, or home address to book a session. Keeping messages here means we can help if something goes wrong.

Keep it about the session.

Logistics, what to bring, what you’ll cover. No requests for photos, no personal questions that make someone uncomfortable.

Don't record without asking.

Want to film a technique to practice later? Ask first, and only share it if they say yes.

Honest hours

Verified hours can become certified community service hours, so they have to be real. This is how a session gets verified:

  1. 1
    Check in together

Both phones confirm you're within 50 m of the booked place. Then one person shows the session QR and the other scans it with the Conexus camera. The QR is unique to that session, changes every 30 seconds, and there's no code to type, so it can't be texted to someone who isn't there.

  2. 2
    Check out together

Do the same when you finish. We log the time you were actually together.

  3. 3
    Both write a summary

Each person writes a short paragraph (at least a few sentences) about what was covered. You can't see the other person's until you've sent yours.

  4. 4
    A moderator verifies

A Conexus moderator reads both summaries alongside the location, QR and time records. Only when they approve are hours logged and credits moved.

Sending someone a screenshot of your QR, or confirming a session that didn’t happen, is fraud. Both accounts lose the hours from that session and may be removed. If times or locations don’t line up, the session is flagged and a moderator reviews it before any hours are released.

Cancelling & no-shows

12+ hours noticeNo problem. Nothing happens.
Under 12 hoursFine occasionally. Three in a month pauses new bookings for a week.
No-show as learnerThe mentor still earns half the credits.
No-show as mentorThe learner is refunded and the session counts against your reliability.

Not allowed, ever

  • Harassment or bullying
  • Hate speech or discrimination
  • Romantic or sexual advances
  • Asking for or offering money
  • Selling products or services
  • Drugs, alcohol or vaping
  • Sharing someone's info without consent
  • Faking a check-in
  • Doing someone's graded work

Reporting & what happens next

Tap Report from any profile, conversation, or session. Reports go to the Conexus moderators, the team that runs Conexus, and never to other students.

Within 24 hours
A moderator reads every report and may pause an account while they look into it.
Within 3 days
You hear back about what was decided. The other person never sees who reported.
If it's serious
Moderators can suspend accounts immediately, and will contact the school or the authorities when someone may be at risk.

In an emergency, call 911. For anything else, email conexusyouthfoundation@gmail.com.
